Featured Work | Storyland Studios Design Challenge

Great places don’t begin with buildingsthey begin with stories.

The Storyland Studios Design Challenge gave me the opportunity to bring together many of the passions that have shaped my career—spatial storytelling, immersive experience design, placemaking, and collaborative creative leadership. The result was Urban Odyssey, an original entertainment destination built around a single Big Idea: the restorative power of human connection.

While the concept was inspired by Denver, it was intentionally designed as a flexible framework that could be adapted to any community. By celebrating local stories, culture, and identity, each destination invites guests to reconnect with one another through shared experiences that are authentic to the place they inhabit.

Every environment was designed around a distinct story, guest journey, and emotional objective before expanding into architecture, placemaking, environmental graphics, and immersive storytelling.

Spatial Storytelling | Designing Experiences, Not Just Spaces

Project Highlight: Transforming a Nightclub into a Place of Belonging

Big Idea: God can transform broken things

When Bent Tree Church purchased its first permanent home, a former nightclub, we recognized that the story of the building reflected the story of the church family. Both had been redeemed for a greater purpose. That shared narrative became the creative foundation for the project and shaped every design decision.

The challenge extended far beyond renovation. Our goal was to create an environment that felt welcoming, authentic, and aligned with the church’s mission from the moment guests arrived.

I led the creative vision in collaboration with church leadership, contractors, and volunteers across environmental graphics, signage, worship spaces, children’s environments, and the overall guest experience. Every element reinforced the building’s story of redemption and transformation.

The result was more than a renovated facility. It became a place where people could experience hope, belonging, and the truth that God transforms broken things.

Project Highlight: Transforming an Existing Church Building

Big Idea: The Church is a real family

When Bent Tree Church clarified its mission, vision, and values, we recognized that the facility should do more than accommodate ministry. It should actively communicate it. The building became an opportunity to tell the story of a church growing together into deep-rooted disciples of Christ.

Rather than approaching the project as a series of cosmetic updates, we reimagined the campus as a unified guest experience. Environmental graphics, floor plan, guest flow, signage, gathering spaces, and wayfinding were all designed to reinforce a shared identity while creating a warm, welcoming environment for members and first-time guests alike.

I led the creative vision in collaboration with pastors, staff, contractors, and volunteers, ensuring every improvement served both the functional needs of the church and the larger story we wanted people to experience.

The result was a campus that reflected the heart of the church and helped guests experience its mission before the service even began.

Project Highlight: Series Stage Designs

Big Idea: Every sermon series is an opportunity to immerse people in the story before a word is spoken.

Over the past fifteen years, I’ve led the creative direction for dozens of worship environments, designing stages that supported the message rather than distracted from it. Each environment began by identifying the central truth of the series and translating that idea into a physical space that prepared people for worship and biblical teaching.

Rather than creating standalone stage sets, I developed complete visual systems that extended across environmental graphics, digital media, print, and worship production. Every element worked together to create a cohesive experience rooted in the story being told.

Working closely with pastors, production teams, fabricators, and volunteers, I guided each project from concept sketches through installation, balancing creative vision, technical constraints, volunteer resources, and budget.

The result was a collection of immersive worship environments that helped communicate biblical truth through thoughtful, story-driven design.
